Back in Las Vegas!

Nine days straight and I don’t get to see the sun. Today, I got to see it four times. Now if only I knew where my sunglasses were.

Neglect and Dust

It has been an amazingly busy year. April 3rd marked the one year anniversary of living and working out of South Florida. During the last year I have had little time to share my experiences, both professionally and creatively. Over the next few months I am going to correct that as best as I possibly can. I want to share my adventures as the Technical Director for the creation of several new production shows, an opportunity I have not had the chance to play with since working in off-loop theater in Chicago.

Mr Toads Wild Ride

I choose this title because it reminds me of having adventures with my best friend in high school. Miss you, Pete.
In the last year we moved to South Florida to accommodate a job offer, leaving behind friends and loved ones. Moving us and Greenman Studios to South Florida was a bit of a challenge. First off, I never thought I would ever live in Florida nor did I want to. I was offered a wonderful new opportunity for both career and creatively though. After some thought and discussion with my partner we were off to Florida. Working with Poet Theatricals over the last year has been a wonderful experience.

A new friend posed a question that has me thinking…

During a small gathering of friends I was introduced to someone new. I later found out that he works in the same industry that I do. He asked me a question that I have been thinking about for the last 2 days.

“What sector do you like to work in?”

After being a full time production manager and lighting designer for a company for 15 years and now having to shift back into the freelance world, I never thought about what sector I like working in. We all have the clients we enjoy working with over others, the gigs that make us happier than others, but which sector do you prefer to work in? What sector makes you the happiest?

What a divine way to think about it.

I never thought it was even possible to simply work in the sectors of the industry that I like and feel passionate about. To me this was a huge revelation! What a tremendous difference this would make for the outcome of your work and the outcome of your client’s project or product.

Now the big question is how to make the shift from working as an independent contractor in myriad industries to streamlining my clientele to the sectors I want to work in?

ISPA 2011

With ISPA officially underway, it makes the last two long days of load in well worth it. What a beautiful set for a beautiful show.

Head West!

Heading back to Las Vegas to work with a long standing client that is more of a friend now than a client. Miss working with the M2 Onstage boys and looking forward to the week ahead.

LDI 2011

Live Design 2011 seemed a little slow this year. A few new LED products on the market but nothing ground breaking like we have seen over the past few years.

It was good to see some old friends in the industry and meet a few new ones.

The Learning Curve

The Learning Curve continues. It has been a pain learning how to make this website work, and work the way I want it to. And I have enjoyed every minute of it.

Photo Experiment

For about a month now I have been trying to learn more about my own site and WordPress. I am trying to create a Photography 365. I have not had much luck on the creation of the blog, however it has not kept me from shooting. I didn’t have my camera with more today. But for some reason I always forget I have a camera in my pocket no matter where I go, my iPhone.

It was a quiet Sunday today in Las Vegas at the convention center. I snapped this photo after leaving the venue heading back to my hotel. Something about seeing all these machines, lined up and ready to head off to work, sparked something for me and I had to take a few shoots.

Enjoy!

Wow

I had no idea that adding a sub group into my blog for the Photography 365 would be so hard. Bear with me while I get through the learning curve.
